SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Oregon acrobatics and tumbling team shined in tumbling and team event, erasing a second-half deficit to beat No. 3 Quinnipiac in the NCATA National Championship semifinals, 270.455-263.595, at the Elmen Center on Friday evening.
The Ducks (7-2) trailed going into the tumbling event after the Bobcats (8-2) won two of the first four events. UO rose to the challenge, however, outpointing the Bobcats to take the lead for the first time heading into team event and punched its ticket to the national championship meet for the first time since 2023 with a strong finish in the finale.
Oregon put high scores up across the board in the first half, but the Ducks were not able to take control of the meet in the first half like they did in Thursday's quarterfinal. That changed in the tumbling event, where the Ducks won four of the six heats and outscored the Bobcats by 1.425 to claim the lead.
The Ducks closed out the win with a 90.530-84.620 advantage in team event.
Quinnipiac had a strong first half, edging out victories in the acro and pyramid events to take the halftime lead. QU scored a 9.90 in compulsory toss, a 9.875 in synchronized pyramid, and a 9.85 in the open pyramid. The Bobcats also scored 9.775 in aerial tumbling.
The Ducks will face top-ranked and nine-time-defending champion Baylor in the championship meet Saturday. Action will get underway at 5 p.m. CT from the Elmen Center.
