The National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association (NCATA) today announced its 2020 All-Academic Team and the 2020 Academic Honor Roll.
Members of the NCATA All-Academic Team must have a 3.30 grade-point average and provide significant contributions to the team’s success during regular season competition.
This year, eight different programs were represented on the 2020 NCATA All-Academic Team, including a trio of repeat selections from 2019 – Alexis Forbes from Converse College, Beth Magee from Azusa Pacific University, and Jocelyn Scott from Gannon University. Morgan Celum (Baylor), Payton Coon (Oregon), Karen DeFilippo (Quinnipiac), Makayla Garland (Hawaii Pacific), and Olivia Kincaid (King) were also named to the eight-person All-Academic Team for 2020.
Each member of the 2020 All-Academic Team had at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average or higher (view GPAs below).
In addition, the NCATA also announced its 2020 Academic Honor Roll, which includes all active Acrobatics & Tumbling student-athletes with a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher.
In all, 286 Acrobatics & Tumbling student-athletes were named to the NCATA Academic Honor Roll in 2020.

Morgan Celum, a senior base from Georgetown, Texas, will graduate in just three season as a member of the Baylor Acrobatics & Tumbling team with a 3.769 grade-point average as a Science Studies-Pre-Physical Therapy major at BU. Celum competed in 10 different heats for Baylor this season, helping the Bears average a 9.55 or higher in nine of those heats. Celum is a two-time National Champion with the Bears and was also a three-time National Champion during Individual Event Finals in 2018 and 2019.
Payton Coon, a senior top, base and tumbler from Portland, Ore., earned NCATA Athlete of the Week honors twice during the 2020 season after helping Oregon to a 4-1 start to the season. In the classroom, Coon has a 3.600 grade-point average as a Business Administration major at the University of Oregon. Coon was also a 2019 NCATA All-American and competed in 12 different heats for the Ducks this season. Coon helped UO to three perfect scores this season, and averaged a 9.819 in her individual tumbling pass, the six-element.
Karen DeFilippo, a senior top from Durham, Conn., has a 3.93 cumulative grade-point average as a Criminal Justice major at Quinnipiac University. DeFilippo competed in six different heats for Quinnipiac as a senior and was an ECAC honorable mention selection back in 2019 after leading the Bobcats to a semifinal appearance in the 2019 NCATA Tournament. DeFilippo also helped QU to a pair of top-three finishes at individual event finals last spring. She is also a member of Criminal Justice Honors Society at Quinnipiac.
Alexis Forbes, a junior base from Hampton, Va., is a repeat selection on the NCATA All-Academic Team in 2020. The junior currently has a 3.95 grade-point average as a Biochemistry major at Converse College. Forbes compete in eight different heats for Converse this season, helping the Valkyries average a 9.50 or higher in five different heats this season.
Makayla Garland, a senior top, base and tumbler from Lathrop, Calif., was a two-time NCATA All-American and also earned NCATA Freshman of the Year honors back in 2016 at Hawaii Pacific. Garland has a 3.52 grade-point average at HPU as a Communications Studies major. As a senior, Garland competed in 12 different heats for the Sharks, helping the team average a 9.50 or higher in seven different heats on the season. She averaged a score of 9.825 in her individual tumbling pass, the aerial.
Olivia Kincaid, a senior base from Richmond, Mo., is a Business Management major at King University with a 3.94 grade-point average. As a senior in 2020, Kincaid competed in 11 different heats to the Tornado, helping the team to season-high scores in nine different heats. Kincaid competes in the compulsory, acro, pyramid and toss events for KU, and is a two-time member of the NCATA Academic Honor Roll.
Beth Magee, a junior top from Katy, Texas, was a 2019 NCATA All-American and was named to the NCATA All-Academic Team for the second-consecutive season. Magee has a 3.98 grade point-average as an Allied Health major at Azusa Pacific University. On the mat, Magee competed in 10 different heats for the Cougars in 2020, helping APU average a score of 9.50 or higher in six of those heats. Magee averaged a 9.875 in the individual aerial tumbling pass for APU.
Jocelyn Scott, a senior base and tumbler from DuBois, Pa., is also a repeat selection on the NCATA All-Academic Team and has earned first team All-ECAC honors for two-consecutive seasons as a standout at GU. Scott has a 3.886 grade-point average as a Biology and Pre-Med major at Gannon. On the mat she helped lead the Knights to a 2018 individual event championship in the inversion pyramid, and was also voted the 2019 Team MVP. As a senior, Scott competed in 11 different heats this season, helping Gannon to an average score of 9.50 or higher in five of those heats.
