During her tenure with the NCATA, Janell has led the growth of the association by adding key personnel, establishing a broader committee structure, and augmenting support for member coaches and administrators. Her primary focus has been the stewardship of the NCAA emerging sport process. Working together with NCATA staff and member administrators, she has also overseen the growing profile of the sport while prioritizing the celebration of the student-athletes competing in Acrobatics & Tumbling. Prior to joining the NCATA, Janell was a staff member at the University of Oregon, serving in several roles during her tenure which began in July 2006. Most recently, she served as the Assistant Director of the Duck Athletic Fund from 2013 to 2014, responsible for the launch of a new fundraising initiative focused on increasing exposure and financial support for women's athletics at the University of Oregon. Prior to that, she was Director of Operations for the Ducks’ women’s basketball team from 2009 to 2013, coordinating all day-to-day operations for the squad during her tenure. Janell served as Special Assistant to the Executive Senior Athletic Administration during the 2008-09 academic year, during which she was introduced to the sport of Acrobatics & Tumbling. Before that, she worked as an academic advisor for the Oregon Services for Student-Athletes (SSA) from 2006 to 2008. Janell arrived back in Eugene from Dartmouth College of the Ivy League, where she served as a Varsity Sports Coordinator. A 2003 graduate of the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Arts in Family and Human Service, Janell also earned her Master of Science in Educational Leadership in 2005. As a softball student-athlete, Cook earned Pac-10 First Team All-Academic honors during the 2002-03 academic year and earned both the Pac-10 Cooper Tire Leadership Award and Pac-10 Postgraduate Scholarship Award in 2003.
