Shawnee State Announces Acrobatics & Tumbling Program

Chloe Minton named program's first head coach

Shawnee State University is excited to announce the addition of Acrobatics & Tumbling as its newest varsity sport, launching in Fall 2026 as part of the institution's transition to NCAA Division II.

The program will be led by newly appointed head coach Chloe Minton, who brings a strong competitive background and a passion for building high-performance, student-athlete experiences.

"The addition of acrobatics & tumbling at Shawnee State opens new doors in Ohio for young women who are training in gymnastics and cheerleading disciplines. Coach Minton is ready to create a dynamic program that will be competitive with current NCATA members in the region.

"Our mission is to ensure more young women have access to the life-changing experience of being a collegiate student-athlete. We are thankful for Shawnee State's commitment to providing new opportunities for women and look forward to supporting them as they implement their program."

As a competitive cheer student-athlete at Moorehead State, Minton ultimately contributed to two national titles as part of that All-Girl Cheer Squad at Morehead State, who has won 14 All-Girl National Championships and 54 national cheerleading championships in all - 53 from the Universal Cheer Association (UCA) and one from the National Cheer Association (NCA).

This marks an important milestone as Shawnee State Athletics expands opportunities for female student-athletes and opens a new chapter of growth and competitive excellence on campus, the school’s administration remarked.

This rapidly growing emerging sport offers a dynamic blend of athleticism, skillset and teamwork that aligns with the university's mission to provide competitive experiences for student-athletes. Over nine million young women participate in the skill sets of acrobatics & tumbling, through youth participation in all disciplines of gymnastic or cheerleading.

Competitors in this sport demonstrate significant strength, power, flexibility, and balance in their skill set.

By launching acrobatics and tumbling, Shawnee State strengthens its ability to recruit and retain talented students, builds new pathways for community and fan involvement, and positions its athletics program for continued growth in a highly competitive collegiate landscape.

More information regarding team development, recruiting, and program initiatives will be shared in the coming months.
