Van de Zilver, Chernov and Bramble Earn Week 7 NCATA Honors

NCATA Athlete of the Week – Jacie Van de Zilver, Azusa Pacific

Jacie Van de Zilver, a sophomore top from Jackson, N.J., helped lead the Cougars to a win over Mary Hardin-Baylor by competing in 12 heats and team event for APU. She helped the Cougars to 11 scores of 9.50 or higher, including a perfect-10 in the open pyramid heat. She also helped APU to a 9.85 in the inversion pyramid and a trio of 9.80 scores in the compulsory pyramid, compulsory toss and seven-element acro. She also impressed in the aerial tumbling pass by scoring a 9.875.
 
NCATA Specialist of the Week – Farrah Chernov, Quinnipiac

Farrah Chernov, a sophomore from Manalapan, N.J., was impressive during the tumbling event for the Bobcats last week. Her performance was highlighted by a high-scoring 9.875 in the aerial tumbling pass. She also competed in the duo pass for the Bobcats and scored a 9.350.
 
NCATA Freshman of the Week – Morgan Bramble, Limestone

Morgan Bramble, a freshman base from Burke, Va., competed in six heats and team event to lead Limestone to a win over Converse last week. Her performance was highlighted by three high scores in the pyramid event, which included a perfect 10.0 in the open pyramid. She also helped LU to a 9.95 in the inversion pyramid and a 9.65 in the compulsory pyramid.


Honorable Mention – Athlete of the Week

Cassidy Osher (Quinnipiac) – Osher, a fifth-year senior from Old Bridge, N.J., competed in eight heats and team event for the Bobcats last week against No. 1-ranked Baylor. Osher helped the Bobcats to five scores of 9.50 or higher, including a meet-best 9.90 in the five-element acro and a pair of 9.85 scores in the compulsory toss and open pyramid heats. She also competed in the six-element tumbling pass and scored a 9.70.
 
Emily Tobin (Baylor) – Tobin, a junior top and tumbler from Templeton, Calif., competed in 12 heats and team event to lead the Bears to a win over No. 4 Quinnipiac last week. Her performance was highlighted by nine scores of 9.60 or higher, including a meet-best 9.95 in the compulsory toss. She also helped Baylor record three scores of 9.85 in the five-element acro, six-element acro and open pyramid. She was also impressive in her individual tumbling pass, turning in a 9.625.
 
Honorable Mention – Specialist of the Week

Makenna Dawson (Azusa Pacific) – Dawson, a freshman from Lubbock, Texas, was impressive in the tumbling event for the Cougars last week. Her performance was highlighted by a near-perfect 9.95 in the open tumbling pass to wrap up the event. She also competed in APU’s duo pass, which scored a 9.40.
 
Kristen McCain (Baylor) – McCain, a sophomore from Cypress, Texas, turned in an impressive tumbling performance for the Bears this week. She began the tumbling event by competing in the Bears’ duo pass that scored a 9.30. She returned during the individual passes to record a 9.80 in the aerial pass later in the event.
 
Honorable Mention – Freshman of the Week

Ayanna Manning (Converse), a freshman base and tumbler from Abingdon, Md., competed in nine heats and team event to lead Converse last week. Her performance was highlighted by three scores of 9.50 or higher, including a meet-high 9.95 in the inversion pyramid. She also helped Converse to a 9.80 in the compulsory pyramid and a 9.75 in the compulsory toss.
 
Alexa Mathews (King), a freshman top, base and tumbler from Hesperia, Calif., competed in seven heats and team event to lead the Tornado to a tri-meet win last week. Mathews' performance was highlighted by four scores of 9.50 or higher, including a 9.90 in the five-element acro and a 9.80 in the compulsory pyramid.
