Baylor Tops 2020 NCATA Preseason Coaches Poll

Baylor University, winners of five-consecutive National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association (NCATA) National Championships, have been voted No. 1 in the associations preseason top 10, following a vote of the 26 head coach around the country.
 
The Bears received 23 of the 26 first-place votes and topped the voting with 386 total points. Baylor, host of the 2019 NCATA National Championships, used a strong performance in the final two events to edge out Oregon in last year’s championship final.
 
Oregon, a 2019 national finalist and host of the 2020 NCATA National Championships, finished second in the preseason voting with 358 points and two first-place votes. Quinnipiac, who fell to Baylor in the national semifinals, came in third place with 330 points, while Azusa Pacific, another 2019 NCATA national semifinalist, came in fourth with 328 points and the remaining first-place vote. Gannon rounded out the top five with 277 points in the voting.
 
Hawaii Pacific (252), Fairmont State (234) and Converse (201) finished sixth through eighth in the voting after earning a trip to the NCATA National Tournament a season ago. King University finished ninth in the poll with 173 points, while Limestone rounded out the top 10 with 127 points.
 
The 2020 NCATA season gets underway on Saturday, Feb. 1 when Baylor University travels to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Action will continue on Sunday with Adrian College vs. Concordia-Wisconsin, and Limestone against Saint Leo.
