Baylor's Lauren Sturm Named NCATA Player of the Week

Baylor junior Lauren Sturm has been named the second National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association (NCATA) Player of the Week, announced on Tuesday, Feb. 14. After helping lead the top-ranked Bears past the third-ranked Quinnipiac Bobcats on Sunday, Feb. 12, Sturm becomes the first Bear to earn the honor this season.

Junior • Back Base • McKinney, Texas (Lovejoy)

Sturm was a key component of the Bears' 281.110-272.700 win over Quinnipiac on Sunday, Feb. 12, participating in 11 total heats. The junior participated in the highest-scoring heat of each event, helped the squad capture six heat victories, and was a member of the Bears' compulsory toss heat, the only perfect, 10.0 score recorded this season by any team.

Honorable Mention

Nicole Uccello • Fairmont State University

Senior • Back • Cumberland, R.I. (Cumberland)

Uccello helped FSU roll to a season-opening road win over Glenville State by competing in 10 heats for the Falcons, scoring a 9.15 or better in eight of her 10 heats. The senior helped FSU score a meet-high 9.85 in the toss heat of the compulsory event, marking the highest score for the Falcons during the meet. She also helped FSU collect a pair of 9.75 scores in the compulsory pyramid and five-element acro.

Alanna Kelley • Alderson Broaddus University

Junior • Base • North Easton, Mass. (Notre Dame Acad.)

Kelley, who competed in nine events in Sunday's victory over King University, had a strong performance on Sunday. She finished with a 9.80 in the Compulsory Pyramid Heat and then finished with a 9.85 in the third heat of the Pyramid Event. She competed in two events in each of the compulsory, acro, pyramid, and toss events while also competing in the team event where the Battlers finished with a team score of 93.80 which clinched the victory over the Tornado. Earlier this week, Kelley was named the first-ever Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Acrobatics & Tumbling Conference Player of the Week.
