VANCOUVER, Wash.- The NCATA seeds for nationals shows University of Maryland was awarded the No. 1 overall seed in the upcoming NCATA National Championship set for Apr. 26-28 in Waco, Texas on the campus of Baylor University, as announced by the organization today.
Despite Oregon (9-0) being the only school that finished without a loss all season, the No. 1 overall seed was awarded to Maryland (8-1). Both squads receive a bye into the semifinals that will take place on Apr. 27 with times still to be determined.
Fairmont State (3-6) was tabbed as the No. 3 seed, Quinnipiac (0-10) as the No. 4 and Azusa Pacific (3-4) and Baylor (2-4) round out the seeds at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.
The seeds were determined by the average of each school’s top two away meets, top home meet plus one additional meet.
Maryland’s seeding was based on a 288.96 score while UO followed up with a 287.86. Exactly 18.98 points separated the No. 1 seed from the No. 6 seed.
In the first round of competition, host-Baylor will face Fairmont State with the winner receiving a date with Oregon. On the other side of the bracket, Azusa Pacific takes on Quinnipiac with the winner of that meet getting a shot at Maryland.
Last season, UO earned the No. 1 seed en route to winning the very first NCATA Championship.
